The Challenge
Stanley Black & Decker's ConTech group had a three-screen proof of concept and a bold premise: a construction platform that manages the crew through their work rather than waiting on management to assign and track it. My job was to turn that spark into a coherent, buildable product, a next-generation SaaS for rapid data entry and rapid data-view reporting that field teams could trust on a live jobsite.
That meant designing a system, not a set of screens. Over 300 screens had to hold together across iOS, Android, and desktop, absorb AR and barcode scanning for asset capture, and stay legible when a single order carries hundreds of line items with cryptic part numbers. The hard part was reducing that complexity to something a worker could operate one-handed in the field while giving office teams the reporting depth they needed.
Approach
Audit the proof of conceptI pulled apart the original three screens to understand the core idea, then reframed it as an end-to-end product, defining the platform's information architecture and the jobs each role needed to complete.
Map the rapid data flowsI designed two spines for the product: rapid data entry for field crews capturing assets on the move, and rapid data-view reporting for teams tracking status across an entire project.
Build the design system in FigmaTo keep 300+ screens consistent and buildable, I created a component library, patterns, and status conventions in Figma so every new screen inherited the same structure, spacing, and behavior.
Design the field-first mobile appThe mobile experience centered on scanning: point at a barcode to pull asset details, with manual ID entry and clear asset-not-found recovery when a part hasn't been uploaded yet.
Design the desktop platformOn desktop I built TrackIt with guided project setup, configurable color-coded status labels, and dense, searchable asset tables with pagination so managers can move through hundreds of items without losing their place.
Key Features
Scan-to-lookup capture
Workers scan an asset barcode to instantly surface its details, or fall back to manual ID entry, with a clear recovery path when an item isn't yet in the database.
AR field features
AR-assisted capabilities extend the scanning workflow, helping crews identify and locate assets in the physical context of the jobsite.
Rapid data-view reporting
A dense, sortable asset table tracks order name, barcode, description, install area, stored location, quantities, and status, with search and pagination built for hundreds of line items.
Configurable status system
Teams map the platform's statuses to their own company language during setup with color-coded custom labels, a minimum of one and up to ten per project.
Guided setup and onboarding
Zero-state screens and a step-by-step New Project Setup walk first-time users from an empty dashboard to a fully configured project, with a re-openable tutorial.
One product, three platforms
A single, coherent experience spans iOS, Android, and desktop, so field crews and office teams work from the same source of truth on whatever device is in hand.
If the platform carries the details, the scan, the status, the next step, the crew can keep their attention on the build instead of the paperwork.
