The Challenge

HempWorx built its reputation in the wellness and supplement space, so extending the brand into an everyday consumer good like a coffee creamer meant answering a hard question up front: how does a product from a wellness brand earn a place next to mainstream creamers without losing what makes it recognizably HempWorx? The packaging had to read as approachable and appetite-driven while still inheriting the identity customers already trusted.

Packaging is unforgiving in ways a screen is not. The design had to live on a physical format with a real dieline, hold ingredient and usage callouts at legible sizes, survive print reproduction, and still stop a shopper at arm's length. That meant developing the product presentation and the package together, so the artwork worked as a marketing asset and a manufacturable object at the same time rather than being decorated after the fact.

Approach

  1. Anchor to the HempWorx systemStarted by auditing the existing HempWorx identity, color, logo usage, and voice, so the creamer would extend the brand rather than compete with it. This set the guardrails every later decision answered to.
  2. Define the product on the shelfWorked through product development to position the coffee creamer within the consumer goods line, clarifying what the front-of-pack should communicate first and how the format should be read in a grocery context.
  3. Build around the structureDesigned the layout against the physical package geometry and dieline, mapping panels, safe zones, and the hierarchy of name, flavor, and required callouts before committing to graphics.
  4. Compose the graphic designDeveloped the front-of-pack typography, color, and layered artwork in Adobe Illustrator, tuning contrast and hierarchy so the product name and brand hold up at small sizes and in print.
  5. Prove it in contextProduced photorealistic presentation mockups in Photoshop, pairing the creamer with brewed coffee so stakeholders could evaluate the package the way a customer would encounter it.

Key Features

Structural package design

Artwork built to the physical dieline and panel geometry, so the layout holds together as a manufacturable package, not only a flat graphic.

Brand-consistent visual system

Color, type, and logo usage inherited directly from the HempWorx identity, keeping the creamer unmistakably part of the family.

Print-production-ready files

Layered, organized Illustrator artwork prepared for handoff, structured so a printer can move to production without rebuilding the file.

Clear label hierarchy

Product name, flavor, and required ingredient and usage callouts ordered for legibility at real package size and reading distance.

Contextual product renders

Photoshop mockups placing the creamer alongside brewed coffee, giving the team a realistic view for review and marketing.

Consumer-line positioning

Front-of-pack designed to translate a wellness brand into an approachable grocery-aisle product without diluting either.

Good packaging earns its place on the shelf before it says a word, structure, hierarchy, and brand all have to agree at arm's length. Chris Cooper, design rationale
