The Challenge

BCG Digital Ventures builds new companies from the ground up, so this FinTech product began as a concept rather than a redesign. The brief was to lead UX from that first idea all the way to launch, defining what the product would be, not decorating what already existed. Financial products carry an unusual burden: every screen touches someone's money, credit, or debt, so trust and clarity are not nice-to-haves, they are the entire job.

The surface area was broad. A dashboard, credit offers, loan consolidation, a family of card products, and conversational support all had to read as one coherent product rather than a pile of features. That meant establishing a shared system early, prototyping flows before engineering invested in them, and keeping documentation tight enough that partners could build with confidence. Coordinating the work across Sketch, Invision, Adobe XD, and Figma added its own demand for a disciplined, repeatable process.

Approach

  1. Ideation and framingExplored the venture concept and mapped the core financial jobs, spending, credit, and debt, into a single product vision before any pixels were committed.
  2. Flow architectureStructured the primary journeys: a dashboard home, a credit offer path, loan consolidation, and conversational support, so each felt like part of one system.
  3. PrototypingBuilt interactive prototypes in Invision and Adobe XD to pressure-test flows and interactions before engineering committed to a build.
  4. Modular card systemDesigned a reusable library of design cards so new offers, accounts, and product surfaces could slot in consistently as the venture grew.
  5. Documentation and handoffDocumented specifications and collaborated directly with engineering partners to carry the designs from concept through to launch.

Key Features

Dashboard flow

A financial home that surfaces balances, activity, and next actions so users can orient quickly and know where they stand.

Credit offer flow

A guided path that presents credit offers with the clarity and disclosure a real financial decision demands.

Modular card system

A library of design cards, the reusable building blocks behind offers, accounts, and product surfaces across the app.

Conversational support

A chat bot layout that lets users get help and resolve questions without dropping out of the flow they are in.

Loan consolidation

A step-by-step flow that turns a complex debt decision into an understandable, low-anxiety sequence.

Engineering handoff

Prototypes and documentation that gave engineering partners a single, unambiguous source of truth to build from.

In finance, clarity is the feature. If someone hesitates before tapping, the design has already failed the moment it needed to earn trust. Chris Cooper, design rationale

Results

  • Shipped a FinTech product from concept through launch, spanning dashboard, credit offer, and loan consolidation flows.
  • Delivered a modular card design system, giving the venture reusable building blocks for offers and product surfaces.
  • Produced prototypes and documentation that gave engineering partners a clear, buildable reference.
  • Established a repeatable design and handoff process working across Sketch, Invision, Adobe XD, and Figma.
